Teenagers in Crandon and an actor impressed with their work, are turning a tragedy into a chance to educate youth on dating violence.
Four high school seniors formed the Teen Action Group, or TAG a month after 21-year-old Tyler Peterson killed six young people in the small town last October.
"What happened in October in Crandon was the result of an unhealthy dating relationship. So for us to step forward and say this is not acceptable - we won't tolerate this in our community," said Mary Sue Engebretson of Tri-County Council, a shelter for victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault.
Investigators say an off-duty sheriff's deputy murdered six people, including his ex-girlfriend and severely injured another October 7th.
Soon after, four high school students sprung into action. TAG speaks to middle school students about the dangers of teen violence, domestic abuse and sexual assault.
An actor named Ben Atherton-Zeman was so moved after seeing TAG perform at a state conference, he decided to give his own performance today.
The one man show created to teach about dating violence, domestic abuse and sexual assault was dedicated to the Crandon angels.
His show, 'Voices of Men' asks males, specifically, to speak out.
"It uses humor and celebrity male voice impersonations to educate high school students and others about sexual assault and dating violence about issues of mostly my gender's violence against girls and women," said Atherton-Zeman.
He uses strong imagery, in addition to humor and asks male students to pledge to raise their voices against violence towards women.
Atherton-Zeman invited TAG to speak at the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence Conference in Washington D.C. this July. But they'll need $2,500 to get there.
