Disasters, such as Thursdays tornadoes in Northcentral Wisconsin, often bring out the best of people in the very worst of times.

But officials say disasters also bring out crooks looking to make a quick buck off of those who want to give.

Disaster Services Director of the American Red Cross Jenny Legaspi says before giving money or writing a check, donors should call the organization's headquarters directly.

She says the American Red Cross never solicits donations door-to-door and says donors should be wary of anyone asking for money on behalf of the organization.
